The Salty Soul is a comfortable, bright, and cheerfully decorated bungalow in the heart of the Outer Banks. Located between the highway (US 158) and beach road (NC 12) in Kill Devil Hills at MP 10, it is conveniently located to eateries, shopping, mini golf, and more. Our bungalow even backs up to Kill Devil Grille--one of the best eateries on the beach!
Getting to the beach is simple with two close by accesses...one at Lake Drive a little north, and a parking access at Eighth Street just a little south (still walkable, though). Or walk a footpath north of the bungalow... about a 3 min. walk.
The Salty Soul is ideal for a couples getaway, modest family, or a peaceful friends weekend. The lower level (and entry area) of the bungalow has a convenient heated and cooled room with washer and dryer, utility sink, additional refrigerator, and a private toilet. Upstairs features an open living room with a cozy deck overlooking a sizable fenced in backyard, kitchen & dining area, as well as a enormous ensuite bedroom that has a king size bed and a bathroom with double sinks, toilet, and a tub shower combo.
A queen size bed in a roomy room is on the top floor. Working space is available with desk and chair. This bedroom has a huge full bathroom. Off this 2nd bedroom is a walk-through closet leading to the 3rd room that has the full size bed in it and a nightstand with light. Great for the snorer in the family or someone wanting privacy. This modest cozy room is best suited for kids or 1 adult.
Note: This 3rd room has no windows and accesses the bathroom through the 2nd bedroom.
The outdoor space is cavernous under the home, on the back deck, or in the fenced in yard area. You can savor eating outside, playing corn hole, or grilling out on the gas grille. After a long day at the beach, you can rinse off in the outdoor shower and relax by the fire pit with a cold drink in hand!
Things to note:
- You must be 26 or older to rent the home
- We have irrigation in the front and back yard, so please do not park on the grass
- We DO NOT allow family pets, so please do not ask or bring one to the bungalow
- Access is given via a key box in the outdoor shower
- Property backs up to a modest local restaurant's parking lot, but it closes early--just worth a mention
- Intelligent Roku TV’s in living room, king bedroom and queen bedroom. You must use your own logins, and are all set to guest mode, No Cable available
- Wireless internet supplied, but speed cannot be guaranteed as we live on an island and it can sometimes be intermittent
- Linens and towels are supplied
- Beach Towels are not included, so you will need to bring your own
- We do not offer beach equipment, but we are a few steps away from Ocean Atlantic Units and they have everything you may need for your stay
- Property has outdoor ONLY security cameras under carport and on back deck

Finding the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Close to Beach-\"The Salty Soul\", Bring Your Flip Flops, New Cottage, circa 2022 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills destination you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
