Tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summertime is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting the best rental home:

  • First, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Sound Views! Brand New 3 bedroom has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
