Tricks and tips to get the optimal Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home:
- Select dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Sound Views! Brand New 3 bedroom has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills destination you simply love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
