How to book the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose yourvacation home:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Sea Glass Shack -- Pet Friendly with Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
