Finding the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront condo with community pool in the heart of KDH! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
