Rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Start by having your group select vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Sound Front Cottage in Collington Harbour has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for a great stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
