Our top Kill Devil Hills rental property booking tips:
Finding the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. COZY COMFORT between the bay and the ocean. has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills attraction you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
