Finding the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Dog-friendly coastal gem with sound & bay views, large deck, & free WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills beach you love, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
