Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose your Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. SunsetSanctuary-CanalFront\/DogFriendly\/Pool&Tennis has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
