Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:
When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home:
- To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. SunsetSanctuary-CanalFront\/DogFriendly\/Pool&Tennis has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
