Rental home tips:
Finding your best deal:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Steps from the Avalon Beach and Pier has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
