How to book the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Start by having your group decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Steps from the Avalon Beach and Pier has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
