Getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking the rightrental home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Wright Salty\/One Block to Beach\/Dog Friendly\/Ocean Views\/Covered Outdoor Space has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
