Finding the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. CAROLINA IN MY MIND - WALK TO THE BEACH, AWFUL ARTHURS, AND AVALON PIER -200YDS has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
