Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. This cozy oceanfront property is full of the \"Old Nags Head\" charm has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
