Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. \"The Hammock Cottage\" has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
