Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. \"The Hammock Cottage\" has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
