The Casita is located in Kill Devil Hills, in the Outer Banks. We fell in adore with KDH for its hometown feel, as well as its painless access to both the ocean and the bay. Our location affords us the luxury of the Bay Drive walking & cycling path, the Bay Drive boat launch, as well as numerous access points to the ocean beach access, with the closest access points at Sportsman, Hayman & 5th Street.
✓ Avalon Pier & Beach Access (Bar, Arcade, Fishing & Beach) (0.6 Miles)
✓ 5th Street Beach Access (Parking Lot) (0.9 Miles)
✓ Hayman Blvd. Beach Access (Parking Lot) (0.8 Miles)
✓ Bay Drive Walking & Biking Path (0.3 Miles)
✓ Avalon Beach Boat Ramp on Bay Drive (0.5 Miles)
✓ Jockey's Ridge State Park (6.4 Miles)
✓ Wright Brothers National Memorial (2.0 Miles)
✓ RC/ Kill Devil Hills Movie Theatre (0.9 Miles)
✓ First Flight Adventure Park (10.0 Miles)
✓ Sandy Run Park (4.0 Miles)
✓ Dowdy Park (5.7 Miles)
✓ Roanoke Island Festival Park (16.5 Miles)
✓ Fort Raleigh National historic Site (18.9 Miles)
✓ North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island (19.4 Miles)
✓ Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge (25.7 Miles)
Getting to the beach from the Casita is simple, and we appreciate that we are located near three easy access points: Sportsman (Via the Avalon Pier), Hayman & 5th Street. For safety purposes we recommend that you head to 5th Street or Hayman during the busier times of the year because those access points have a stop light with a crosswalk to cross N Croatan which can be busy during peak times. As for the Avalon Pier access, if you walk straight down Sportsman to the beach, you can access to the right of the pier entrance!
Kitty Hawk Bay is due West from our home down Sportsman. We highly recommend you head down that way for sunsets at nighttime, but also at anytime during the day because the Bay Drive trail runs along the bay for multiple miles in each direction. You can use this for walking, running, cycling, but it also leads to the Avalon Beach Kitty Hawk Bay Boat Launch where you can launch boats, jetskis, canoes, kayaks, etc.
The shed in the backyard will have 3-4 bicycles for your use. Also in the shed is a Solo stove fire pit for your use (wood not supplied). We also have a paddle board that we provide at your request. Simply reach out to us and let us know that you would be interested in appreciating those activities, and we can ensure that those items are on site and available to you.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to book a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Casita - Close to Beach & Bay, Outdoor Shower! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
