For a classic OBX experience and a throwback to simpler times, make The Pink House your next home away from home. This cozy and comfortable bungalow is brimming with history and vintage appeal. Constructed in the 1960's and lovingly maintained, The Pink House still features the original exposed beam ceilings. Two screened porches - one in the front and a second on the back of the home - are ideal for outdoor living while being protected from the elements. Animals are welcome, so your fur babies can join you on your next trip to the Outer Banks!

When it's time to hit the beach, take a fast drive north to the Hayman Blvd beach access, which provides plenty of complimentary parking. Sidewalks and close by pedestrian crosswalks make it simple to discover the neighborhood on foot or by bicycle. Within a half mile radius you'll find Avalon Fishing Pier, the Front Porch Cafe, Wawa, Target, a movie theater and dining options including Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar and The Jolly Roger.

Can’t stay an entire week? The Pink House is available for short stays with flexible arrival/departure options. For guests who like to plan ahead, partial week stays (three-nighttime minimum) can be reserved months in advance. Choose any day of the week for check-in and check-out.

Family Pets allowed. No smoking/vaping. Mini-split air conditioning (3 units).

Tips for getting the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. The Pink House: Central Location
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. message the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
