Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your group commit to the best dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sunset Seaker! (Soundfront Condo w\/Pool) has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
