Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. KDH Cozy Log Cabin near wood preserve has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
