Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfectrental:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Studio Sea • Private hot tub! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills beach you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
