Our top Kill Devil Hills vacation rental tips:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking the bestrental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Budget Friendly! Your Tiny Modern Piece of Paradise, Steps from the Ocean! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
