Booking during Hurricane Season (June 1st-Nov. 30th):
Booking a stay on our little sandbar during Hurricane season is always a little risky. These storms are unpredictable and can occur most often days or maybe a week before your stay. As listed, we have a strict cancellation policy which accepts for a full refund within the first 48 hours as long as the check-in date is at least 14 days away, a 50% refund for cancellations made at least 7 days before check-in, and no refunds for cancellations made within 7 days of check-in. If there were a mandatory evacuation while you were staying we would then give a full refund for the days that were affected by this action made by Dare County. If you choose to leave but no mandatory evacuation was issued you will not receive a refund. Some guests choose to purchase their own travel insurance policy through an independent company if they are nervous about this. Some of the most striking times of the year on the Outer Banks are during Hurricane season, but our policies are important for you to consider when booking.
***Must be at least 25 years old to rent bungalow.
***Host requires names and ages of all guests prior to check in.

Rental property booking tips:
When to visit & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning and picking your prefectrental home:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Slow Pace, OBX Cozy Beach Cottage, 2 min. walk to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
