How to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Charming coastal home with a large yard, firepit, & outdoor shower has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
