Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Scout's Harbour Family Bayhouse! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
