Strategies to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, try changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. McLovin:Oceanside, private pool, hot tub, dog-friendly & short walk to the beach has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
