Tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Kill Devil Hills. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book the perfectvacation home:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog-friendly home with sound access in Colington Harbour has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills beach you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
