Booking the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly home with sound access in Colington Harbour has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
