Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- To start, have your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sunday Turnovers! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
