Strategies to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking a perfectrental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Oceanside, 3 minute walk to the beach, hot tub, screened deck and rooftop deck. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
