Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and pick yourrental:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Cozy beach box in quiet neighborhood. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
