How to find the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the rightvacation home:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
- Elevator
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
