Tips for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Kill Devil Hills rental:
- First, have your family choose the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. The Grant Atlantic has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
