Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. CP206B Sound Pointe * Kayaks * Community Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
