Booking the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Kill Devil Hills restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Hot Tub
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
