Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Central Location has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
