Getting the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
When to visit Kill Devil Hills & When to book:
- To find the best value, change your family's Kill Devil Hills trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. 201 My Happy Place by First Flight Rentals has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. - If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
