Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To book the best rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the best vacation rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:

  • To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Cozy Cottage on the Canal, Hot-tub, Kayaks & Fishing has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
