Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your group choose dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Well appointed condo just steps to the beach in Kill Devil Hills! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
