Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Finding the perfect vacation home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Cottage
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
