Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Swept Away One -Great Family Beach Home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
