Rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose the best rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. A Stylish Suite in the Heart of the Outer Banks with a Private Gym and Hot Tub. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
