Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, shift your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- First, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. SoundNSurf has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
