How to find the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Stunning Semi-oceanfront penthouse condo (SP301S - Endless Summer)) has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
