Finding the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Perfect for family beach vacations. Spacious updated house, short walk to beach! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
