Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Get the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oyster Pointe Soundside Large Deck Overlooks Pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
