Tips for getting the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To get the best value, change your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the best vacation home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. OBX Island Cottage~Water view~ 1 level, no stairs~ Beach 3.5 miles (8 min drive) has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
