Strategies to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best rental:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanside home just 35 yards to the beach w\/ elevator, pool, and hot tub! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. text the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
