Tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the perfect rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. OBX Getaway has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
