Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. SC202 Coastal LegaSea by First Flight Rentals has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
