When to visit & When to book:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Goldie St Retreat - Heart of KDH, hot tub, pet friendly, centrally located has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.

Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
