Getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Saline Solution - Cozy Cottage 3 blocks from ocean has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills beach you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
