Originally constructed in 1969 with an addition in the mid ‘70’s, the Flying Monkey embraces the ambiance of a true Outer Banks summer bungalow while sporting modern amenities and fresh local decor. This three bedroom, one full bath and two half bath bungalow has a unique floor plan. The main structure is comprised of two bedrooms, one full and one half bath, kitchen and living room. Out the back door, through the covered breezeway, is the master suite featuring another half bath and laundry. This setup can accommodate a wide range of visitors and is ideal for multiple couples, parents/grandparents or anyone that appreciates a bit of separation from the rest of their event while on vacation. All bedrooms are furnished with a queen bed, nightstand, dresser, mirror and 32” Roku intelligent TVs. Additionally, the master also includes a modest sitting area making it - nearly - a complete escape from the main home. Outdoor living space is ample here. The front porch in the main home is comfortably furnished and is ideal for morning coffee or afternoon drinks. The breezeway between structures has a modest sitting area, outdoor shower and access to the patio which includes a Jacuzzi hot tub, picnic table and propane grille. Most importantly, a direct pedestrian only beach access only 500 feet, a 2 min. walk, away.
Linens, towels and a starter supply of paper products are supplied. There is hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available for use as well. The only additional charges are the state/county occupancy taxes, home/hot tub cleaning fee and a returnable security deposit.

Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick yourrental:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Flying Monkey! Updated Cottage Only 500’ to the Beach! Hot Tub - Flexible Stays! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills beach you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
