Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To book the largest rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Kill Devil Hills rental:
- Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Beautiful OBX \"Seaglass\" Cottage- Newly Renovated & Close to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email the host before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
